Summary

In the beginning of Part One, the Thunderhead stated that it enjoyed caring for humanity. In Chapter 1, Honorable Scythe Brahms just completed a gleaning in his usual way, in which he restrained his subject and played Brahms’ lullaby before killing him or her, but he felt like someone was watching him. Scythe Lucifer, dressed in a black robe, chased and caught Brahms. Lucifer, also known as Rowan Damisch, a failed scythe’s apprentice, accused Brahms of abusing his power as a scythe and performing crimes against humanity for gleaning a woman as a favor to a friend. Instead of killing the corrupt scythe with fire, Rowan decided to give Brahms a chance to amend his ways.
