Clarion Club

Debbie and Kenneth have their wedding at the Clarion Club. They want something low key, but Sophie wants more. It is here that Gail puts up pictures of Debbie alongside pictures of Kenneth.

A large part of the novel takes place at Gail's house. This is where she goes after she leaves her job, and it is where Max stays while he is in town. It is where they fall into familiar domestic habits.

Ashton School

Gail works at Ashton School as assistant headmistress when the novel opens. She is told that she will not be getting the position of headmistress once the current headmistress leaves, leading Gail to walk out.
