Summary
Max asks Gail if she still takes Sunday walks, and when she tells him that she does, he suggests coming with her. They have to stop the cat from following them out. Gail has been in the house for over two decades; she believes Max should have known this. That night, she told Max that she wanted to purchase a small house for herself and Debbie to live in, telling him that she desired a divorce “just because” (131). Gail tells him that she no longer is who she wants to be when she is with him. She is no longer the person he idolizes. “I used to be perfect” (131) she thinks.
