Camp Parapet

There are both Black and white members of the military at this camp. When the story starts, Black men are coming to the camp to determine if they will be accepted into service. The men must be strong enough to do heavy work, and some are turned away. The people inspecting the men no longer care if the men they inspect are emancipated or if they are escaped slaves. It is described as a makeshift camp. There are tools, wooden wagons, and men lining up for what they need. Neither end of the camp is pleasant, but the Black end is much more rugged and does not even include beds. The tents are ripped.
