Stella

Stella is a slave. She is half Black and half white. Because of her light skin color, she has more advantages than her sister does, and she becomes a concubine of sorts to Frye. She embroiders.

Stella is the daughter of Janie and Janie’s previous master, Percy. Percy tells Janie that she can decide where Stella went when she comes of age. She never likes Frye, and she uses the information he shares with her to help the enslaved men escape. She believes she needs to do what she can to help the men.
