Chapters 16-18 Summary

In chapter sixteen, Milo wakes drunk in the Willomot Hill Bar. Milo goes home and argues briefly with Helen before making love with her on the entryway floor. Milo tells Helen he knows who killed Raymond. Helen orders Milo to kill the murderer. Milo goes to Mahoney's to make arrangements to get Muffin his money, but learns Muffin has already left town. From there, Milo goes to the Riverside and confronts Nickie. When Milo pulls a gun, Nickie suffers a heart attack and dies. Mama D. follows Milo out of the bar after discovering her husband's death and shoots after him, accidentally wounding a tourist.

In chapter seventeen, Milo goes to his office and receives a call from Mama D's cousin. The man wants to meet at Mahoney's. However, the thugs come to Milo's office and try to break in. Milo...
