Point of View

The novel is written entirely from the view of a mortal girl, Jude, who lives in the Faerieland realm of Elfhame. Jude has been living in Elfhame for years by this point, and she has learned the ways of the people though she is often powerless against them. For example, when they crown her Queen of Mirth as a joke, she knows what is happening but is unable to stop dancing until she manages to take control of the situation by asking for a different dance. Jude hates Elfhame and its people, but has come to view this as her home. Most readers will consider her to be an honest narrator, especially when she admits to her own faults and fears.
