Summary
Back in the present day, Phobe watches the opening reception for the wedding from the balcony of her hotel room. There is a knock at her door and Lila, the bride, enters. Lila informs Phoebe that if she does not change her mind about her plan to kill herself then she will inform the front desk. She suggests she should leave the hotel to seek help immediately. When Phoebe declines, Lila asks her to at least wait until the wedding is over, in a week’s time. Phoebe and Lila have a discussion about depictions of hell in classical literature. Phoebe claims she cannot afford to stay at the hotel for a whole week and Lila says she has spent so much money on the wedding already that paying for Phoebe’s room for the rest of the week will make no difference.
