Rebecca Winter

Rebecca Winter is sixteen years of age in 1882. She speaks German, English, Italian, French, Spanish, and is learning Russian. She lives with her mother and grandmother in Maida Vale and looks forward to the independence of her first job. She was three years old when her family was forced into exile from central Europe. Becky and her family are from Razkavia. Her father was a lawyer who tried to start a movement for democracy and was imprisoned. He died and Becky, her mother, and grandmother moved to London. She was hired by Herr Strauss, the Prince of Razkavia to tutor his wife in German. When the Prince's brother is assassinated, he becomes Crown Prince and must return to Razkavia. Becky is asked to accompany the Princess as her companion. At one point, Godel tries to have Becky replaced and returns to her home, but Adelaide and Countess...
