Summary

In Chapter 5, Owen feels guilty that he is basically tricking Bethany into taking him into the book. He is thrilled when Bethany leaves him a note, saying she will take him, and begins making plans.

In Chapter 6, Bethany and Owen arrive in Owen's bedroom, which is filled with dilapidated books retired from the library. Bethany goes over her rules, which include no interacting with characters or taking any action that would change the story. Owen shows her the specific scene in the Kiel Gnomenfoot book. The Magister's attention is elsewhere, leaving the spell book available for Bethany. They read the scene, which includes the Magister using telecommunication to talk to Kiel. Bethany is worried that something will go wrong, but holds to the hope that Owen really is trying to help her.
