Windover Stables

Windover Stables is the place where Debbie kept her horse. At Terry’s request, Bret drives to Windover Stables to find out what happened to Spirit. Bret is shocked and disturbed by what he sees. Someone has broken into the stable and mutilated and killed the horse.

Empty House on Mulholland

Since Bret’s parents are away on a European cruise, Bret stays by himself in his house on Mulholland Drive. Rosa, the housekeeper, cleans the house and prepares meals for Bret. Rosa is not there all the time. Bret frequently refers to his home as the “empty house on Mulholland” (77) indicating that it bothers him that his parents have left him alone.
