Summary

In Chapter 24, Bret went to school Friday with the plan to make friends with Robert. He felt that he had no other choice. Bret apologized to Susan for their confrontation in Palm Springs and promised he would never tell Thom. He promised he would be a better friend to her. Bret even apologized to Robert.

It was arranged that Bret would pick Robert up for Terry Schaffer’s party Saturday night. During the drive to Terry’s house, Bret had a moment of panic when he thought he saw a beige-colored van behind them. Bret wondered if the van was following him or if it was following Robert.

At the Schaffers’ house, Bret noted that Liz treated him more coolly than usual. Bret told Robert he was not going to drink too much so he could take Robert home whenever he was ready...
