In Chapter 44, when Frankie got an e-mail from the Night Bird saying that Lucy was waiting for her she realized that the building the police were searching was a ruse. She knew she should call the police but also felt she needed to face the Night Bird alone. Her phone vibrated with a video call. His mask was more horrifying in person as he called her name in a sing-song voice. Frankie asked to see Lucy so he turned the camera to show Lucy in a completely white room grasping the handle of a knife. Lucy begged for Frankie to save her.
