Summary

Chapter 51

The spider army scatters as the Argo II crashes in. Percy comes down and the two exchange stories about what happens. The group is happy that they recovered the statue and set about using the ship to get it out. While they are trying to move the statue, the cavern starts to collapse around them. The group heads to the ship to escape, but Annabeth is caught in a web spun by Arachne. Percy grabs her arm and tries to stop her from being pulled down into Tartarus. She tells him to let her go, but he refuses. He reiterates the promise he made to always be with her and they declare that as long as they are together they can survive anything. To the horror of everyone else, the pair descend together into Tartarus.
