Summary

Chapter 29 takes Grace’s point of view as she resumed her normal life in New York after returning the photographs to the consulate. One day while working in Frankie’s office, she found out that Frankie would be adopting Sam, a young boy they helped earlier in the novel. Frankie left the office for a while, and during that time Mark arrived and asked Grace why she left without saying goodbye. She claimed she was overwhelmed by everything that had happened. Mark revealed that he had been in the JAG corps of the military but had been discharged for wanting to prosecute a case against an American soldier who killed a German guard in cold blood.
