Summary

Chapter 20 returns to Grace’s point of view in 1946. Grace and Mark left the hotel and walked around the Mall, visiting some of the monuments. Grace told Mark that Annie believed the girls had been betrayed. Mark expressed doubts, but nonetheless remained open to the idea. As they visit the Lincoln Memorial, Mark confessed that he lost two brothers at Normandy and could empathize with her feelings of loss toward Tom. They returned to Mark’s apartment and went to their separate bedrooms, but Grace suddenly had an idea and ran into Mark’s bedroom. She suspected that it may have been Eleanor who betrayed the girls, as she would have been the only one with enough information about agents all over France. Mark agreed that it was possible.
