Summary

In Chapter 1, Henry goes back to the counter where a customer, Emily, asks him out. He declines. His friend Beatrice teases him about it. Both Henry and Bea are still recovering from their own respective heartaches. The bookstore’s owner is rarely in so Henry effectively runs the place himself. After work, Henry and Bea go to see their friend Robbie’s play. They go to the after party and Henry feels a depressive episode coming on. Before he can leave the party, he is stopped by one of the cast members who kisses him on the mouth.

Addie steals some takeout and heads over to her ex-girlfriend Sam’s apartment in Chapter 2. She runs into Sam on the rooftop of the building. They chat and Sam points out the constellation of freckles on Addie’s face. Addie...
