Summary

In Chapter 12, Jack noticed that Kurt was watching him and Alison. They were careful to talk only about fishing with him in earshot. While returning to the lodge, they encountered the Takagis. Sensing their trustworthiness, Jack told them about the murdered girl. The couple said they had seen terrible things, too, but were unsure what to do. From their allusions, Jack learned that Den was taking his victims' plasma and transfusing it into his rich clients. The victims were all survivors of chronic diseases. Their plasma supposedly had "Super immunity" and "Reverse aging" capabilities (271).

Jack could not stop thinking about this information for the rest of the day. Later, he and Alison devised a plan. They took Jack's bucket of fencing equipment, including dynamite, and snuck towards Kreutzer's. As they were sneaking under the fence, something hit Jack.
