Summary

In Chapter 9, while Jack and Alison were talking near the river, they overheard the Takagis conversing with Cody. They seemed shaken and unnerved. They were talking about treatments. Jack wondered if they were referring to "addiction therapy" (198). The Takagis seemed like "the antithesis of addicts" (198).

Jack told Alison about his conversation with Shay and about finding Ken's phone.

In the lodge, Jack engaged the Takagis, hoping to garner some information. They explained that they were leaving early because the scheduling and service were "not what [they had] expected" (208).

Then Kurt arrived and told Jack he was fired. Furious, Alison threatened to post negative things about the lodge on her social media if he fired Jack. Kurt ceded. Jack promised to turn in his rifle.

While bringing the gun to the lodge, Jack wondered if Den's operation was a "Sex trafficking ring for billionaires...
