Summary

In Chapter 4, Kurt reprimanded Jack for leading Alison into danger. Alison was furious with Kreutzer, and expressed her frustration to Kurt.

Kurt said he should fire Jack for his behavior, disbelieving that Jack needed the job at all. Having read about Jack’s presence at Wynn’s death online, Kurt thought Jack was "running" from something (64). Jack knew he was threatening him.

Jack "skipped dinner" (66). In an act of defiance, he did not bring his rifle to the lodge. He spent the evening trying to decide what to do. He was unsure he wanted to stay. He was unsure that he wanted to return home. Shortly thereafter, Ana appeared on his doorstep. They had a conversation, during which Ana told Jack information he did not understand.

Afterwards, Jack "thought about Alison K" (71). He knew she was famous, but was unsure who she was...
