Summary

In Chapter 31, Deka and Belcalis arrive at the first line of deathshrieks. Deka commands them all to kneel. She approaches the leader and tells it to speak. The deathshriek calls her a betrayer and says she will never be forgiven. Deka passes out and wakes up in a tent. The emperor congratulates her and tells her Britta is fine. After the emperor leaves, Deka lifts the compulsion from Gazal and tells Belcalis and Adwapa that she can understand the deathshriek’s language.

In Chapter 32, Deka and the army head out in the morning on another raid. The deathshrieks attack with weapons. Deka is commanded to use her voice to stop the deathshrieks, but one of them runs up to her and says she is Katya.
