Summary

In Chapter Three, Deka wakes up in a prison. Ionas is guarding her, but he will not explain to her what is happening. Her father arrives with Elder Durkas, who gives her father a sword and asks him to purify the demon. Deka’s father cuts her head off. Her neck reattaches itself to her head and she wakes up believing she truly is a demon. Elder Olam arrives and convinces Deka that she must die or her father will die from grief. She begs for him to kill her because she is an abomination in the eyes of Oyomo, her god. Over the next two months, Deka is killed nine times by the Elders, who continually drain her blood so they can sell the gold. This is almost unheard of. Usually, demons are killed after two or three attempts. A nameless woman...
