Summary

In Chapter 14, Yona sees the groups become one family by spring (1943). There were more mouths to feed over the winter, but several members of Zus's group are excellent hunters so they have enough to survive. Pessia and Leah become friends with Chaim's boys, and their nightmares stop. Sulia apologizes to Yona but continues to avoid her. Yona becomes uneasy as the date for their first move approaches and tells Aleksander they need to move early. He argues, then agrees to move the following day, saying the group needs time to mentally prepare to leave this place they have come to see as home. He feels Yona cannot understand because she has never had a home. Yona knows she will also miss this place but knows survival is more important. When Zus talks to her about the move, Yona apologizes.
