Chapters 41-43 Summary

Chapter 41

Severn enters the datasphere and finds it in chaos. He confers with Ummon, who tells him the TechnoCore is in a state of civil war. Severn asks Ummon where the Core resides, and Ummon tells him that the Core exists in the space between singularities in the farcaster network. Ummon also reveals that the Earth that Severn is on is no simulation. The Volatiles convinced the other AIs to destroy Earth and caused the malfunction in the Kiev experiment that created the singularity which humans believed destroyed the Earth. But the Stables managed to use the singularity to move the Earth to a new location, beyond the easy reach of humanity.
