Wells, Connecticut

Much of the novel’s narrative action takes place in the fictional town of Wells, Connecticut. The novel provides very few details about Wells itself, but it appears to be a predominantly white suburb. Dana, Jackie, and Floyd were all born and raised in Wells. Lupita began living there when she was a child, possibly in her early teens years. Jackie and Floyd remain in Wells after marrying. Dana leaves Wells when she moves away to college, and Lupita leaves Wells when she flees to Hawaii. Wells is also the setting of the author’s previous novel, Did You Ever Have a Family.
