Summary

In Part 2, "Fall," Chapter 7, Hai and Grazina pretend they are in WWII battles whenever Grazina has “one of her episodes” (117). Hai continues playing the part of Sergeant Pepper. Meanwhile, he keeps working at HomeMarket. One day, he, Maureen, and Sony drive HomeMarket meals to “the Panetta . . . in Millsap” for the fast food Peace Treaty (122). Local chains exchange food. At the event, Maureen slips off with a Panetta worker. Afterwards, she tells Hai about her late child named Paul and her political theories, which involve lizards and aliens.

In Chapter 8, Hai and Grazina dig out Grazina’s old electric scooter. They start taking rides around town.

At work, Hai makes Fluffernutter sandwiches for his co-workers. While they are eating, a regular named Cookie overdoses in the bathroom. Wayne is so shocked that he knocks a bucket of melted cheese onto everyone. After an ambulance...
