Summary

In Chapter 4, Hai waits behind HomeMarket the next day to meet with BJ. He chats with Sony and his coworker Russia until BJ arrives. She leads Hai inside, introducing him to the other workers, Maureen and Wayne. While giving him a tour, BJ explains their mission at HomeMarket, proudly describing their product and sales history. She offers Hai the job, gives him his uniform, and introduces him as the "newest member” of their team (59). While eating a piece of chicken from Wayne, Hai starts crying because he feels so proud of himself.

Sony trains Hai, all the while sharing facts about the Civil War. BJ calls Hai into her office and shows him her entrance song, a guitar piece she wrote for her upcoming wrestling match.

After work, Hai stands outside and studies the Sgt. Pepper’s store across the lot. He...
