Summary
In Chapter 28, Clover tells Leo about Claudia while playing mahjong. He teases her about her budding friendship before they reminisce about her grandpa. Clover asks if Grandpa ever talked about raising her alone. Leo cautiously says it was difficult, but that her grandpa was happy since he worked so much when his own daughter was young. He hated and felt guilty over how often Clover's parents traveled without her. When they passed, he saw a chance to make up for everything. Leo also reveals that Grandpa relied a lot on Bessie for girl things and frequently worried he was failing. Once their game ends, Clover spies on Julia and Reuben, feeling their relationship is the only constant in her life.
