Chapter 18 Summary

Dhatt thinks Borlu is hiding his conversation with Jaris, and angry that Borlu didn't tell him about Jaris's phone call. Borlu accuses Dhatt of withholding information from him—specifically the information the head guard is providing Dhatt as a mole. Dhatt says the guard doesn't know anything and Borlu tells Dhatt about his conversation with Jaris.

Dhatt and Borlu go to a local bar for a few drinks and then Dhatt takes Borlu home for dinner. Borlu stays longer than he plans with Dhatt and his wife. When he leaves, he convinces Dhatt to allow him to walk home. Borlu takes the route that takes him right past his own house. Since he lives in a crosshatch area, the street is split in half so that it is half Beszel and half Ul Qoma. When he returns to his hotel, he schedules...
