Chicago

Chicago is the city where Bettina and Babs live. Chicago is the primary setting for the majority of the novel. It is also the city where Babs ends up dying when she is run over by a pickup truck when crossing the street.

New York City

New York is where Lucas Ballentyne lives with his wife and son. Bettina goes to live in New York with Lucas and his family after Babs dies. Bettina also buys her first apartment in New York when she is twenty-six.

Scrapbook Scissors

Babs has a special pair of scissors that she uses to create her scrapbooks. They are decorated with jewels on the handles of the scissors. Bettina is playing with the scrapbook scissors when she accidentally cuts her hair off, right before the Christmas card picture is due to be taken.
