Chapter 46 Summary

Brock watches as Dirk walks up the knoll for their meeting. Brock asks if Dirk planned the elopement and the duel. Dirk admits that he did and that he is sorry that he didn't get the chance to kill Gorth. He tells him that Tess is poxed and that their doctor was bribed to say that Culum was clean. The two men draw weapons and begin to circle one another. Dirk eggs Brock on by telling him that Gorth is the reason why Tess is poxed. It was Gorth who planned it all with the drugging and taking Culum to a whorehouse when he was put with a poxed whore. As Brock's anger increases, Dirk tells him that neither Tess nor Culum is poxed. He only told Brock that so he would understand his feelings.
