Chapter 34 Summary

After leaving the bishop's palace, Dirk goes to the company residence. The staff already knew he was in Macao and has a bath ready for him. He asks Lo Chum, his servant, to wake Culum and finds that he isn't there. He has only been there one or two nights. Chen Sheng arrives at nine and is admitted by Lo Chum. They discuss the Tai-Pan's trip to the bishop's palace but neither knows why. They know that May-may is aboard the China Cloud. Lo Chum indicates that he has some special information and Chen Sheng says he was thinking of him and the gifts he wanted to send him.
