Chapter Two Summary

In Chapter Two, Rose faces a bigger immediate challenge. She must complete her trials in order to secure graduation from St. Vladimir's Academy. A poor final showing means lower placement for Rose as a Dhampir Guardian of the Moroi during assignments. Rose is surprised to find a large crowd of gathered Vladimir students, parents and teachers at the outdoor trials. The appearance there of her mother Janine Hathaway, a famed Moroi and Vladimir alumni herself, as well as Abe Mazur, her infamous and human Russian privateer father, only adds to Rose's stress levels as she is effectively though not overtly estranged from both.
