Summary

In Chapter 43, Mikami sat alone in the Media Relations office. He tried calling Odate but could not manage to get through. Suddenly, he noticed a plastic file lying on his desk. It was the highly thorough report on Meikawa assembled by Kuramae. He had been surprised at the highly personal details Kuramae had decided to include in the report. Mikami reflected on Kuramae’s work trajectory, that he had been shuffled between many different police divisions over time, thus, according to Mikami, he “lacked a territory he could call his own” (299).

Mikumo then entered the room. She said Ishii was speaking to the Press Club who she added liked to call themselves the “’Four Seasons’” (299). They discussed the nickname’s origin.
