Summary

In Chapter 15, at the station, Mikami checked on Mikumo, looking to see if she had gone out drinking with her coworkers the night before. She had not, as evidenced by her non-bloated face. Mikami then approached Suwa who told Mikami that the reporters still planned to give their protest to the station captain. Mikami was debating giving the reporters the woman’s name by “thinking out loud” (105). This would technically not be considered a breach in police confidentiality.

Mikami considered talking to a member of the press in order to mediate the situation. He decided on Azusa Mikio, a senior editor from the Toyo. He made a “mental note” to do this (105). Ishii called Mikami, telling him to report to Akama’s office before quickly hanging up the phone. Mikami knocked on Akama’s door. Without offering Mikami a seat, Akama scolded him...
