Chapter 26 Summary

Kaitlin applies to college through Mrs. Flannery. Bram is not at school and Kaitlin calls to find out what is going on. Bram reveals that the land deal fell through, and he and his mother were up late talking, and so he didn't get much sleep. Kaitlin asks him about why building a retreat is so important to the Crutchfields, and Bram explains it is supposed to be a retreat for cancer patients.

Kaitlin also talks to her father, wanting to know why he won't sell the land that isn't being farmed. Garner explains that some things aren't supposed to change.
