Chapter 16 Summary

The Bookends -Buzz and J.B. -confront Kaitlin in the hallway. They have discovered she is Kaitlin Malone. In exchange for midterm papers, the Bookends will keep their silence about who Kaitlin is.

Kaitlin meets up with Bram, who reveals to her his family has a plan to get the extra land that they need. He further believes that his father was murdered, not killed accidentally. Bram seethes with hatred for the Malones. Kaitlin knows the witnesses were all Crutchfield employees, and that they lied about what happened. When Bram calls Kaitlin's father a scumbag, she smacks him across the face.

Kaitlin explains her anger is a result of her losing someone close to her, and Bram assumes it is Becky. Kaitlin is now absolutely sure she must tell Bram about her identity.
