The Lack of Tolerance

While the Shadowhunters are a group of people who deal with incredible situations on a daily basis, many of them are narrow minded when it comes to anyone other than Shadowhunters and to any choices other than what they view as traditional. That lack of tolerance shows itself in many ways, including those who condemn anyone who does not adhere to a heterosexual lifestyle and those who condemn anyone who is a Downworlder.

Alec is a Shadowhunter, a member of an angel-blessed group charged with keeping the world and mortals safe. A Downworlder is anyone who is not human, including warlocks, faeries, vampires, and werewolves. Demons are evil creatures from Hell who endanger the world and everyone in it, including Downworlders.
