Summary

Chapter 22 is titled “The Great Poison.” Magnus and Shinyun arrive at a villa and they are soon trapped. Magnus discovers he is drained of energy, including magic, and realizes Shinyun poisoned his drink at the bathhouse. He remembers Tessa warning that someone poisoned her when she was getting close to finding answers. Magnus passes out and wakes to find he is shackled. She becomes furious that Magnus will not show Asmodeus the proper respect. She refers to Asmodeus as “her father” and says she owes him everything. Though Magnus is worried, he cannot hate Shinyun, knowing the trauma she suffered and the lack of people who actually cared about her have made her this way. Shinyun directs a cult member named Bernard to take Magnus to “the pit.” Magnus makes a joke about “evil cult member Bernard,” who treats Magnus roughly in return...
