Summary

Chapter 19. Some time later, Queenie again tries to connect with Cassandra, but is unable to. She gets out of bed, gets dressed, and travels through the rain to the apartment block where she used to live with Tom. She is buzzed in by a small, pretty blond white girl whom Queenie finds somewhat familiar, believing that the girl lived in the same building and that they encountered each other at some point. The girl runs upstairs, and a moment later Tom appears, surprised and uncertain. Queenie apologizes for coming to see him, but asks to be allowed to say what she has to say. Tom agrees, and Queenie speaks at length about everything that has been happening to her since they broke up, particularly all the unprotected sex she has been having. She ends by saying that she is miserable without Tom...
