Summary

Parachute Kids, a graphic novel, opens with a wide panel that shows 10-year-old Feng-Li getting off a plane in America in 1981. She is accompanied by her parents, identified throughout this guide as Mr. and Mrs. Lin, and by her older siblings, Ke-Gang and Jia-Xi. The next page in the section shows the family entering the crowded airport at Los Angeles. The members of the family are shocked by the scene, but Feng-Li is the first to become excited. She is looking through a guidebook as she begins to list all the things she wants to see while on vacation. An hour later, Feng-Li is still listing places of interest while the family waits in line.
