Summary

Pages 96 – 131

On day 199, Tara begins following Thomas. She had worried that she might and is disappointed with herself when she does. She follows him on several days. She goes to the supermarket when he is out, as usual, but instead of returning home she watches him through the windows of the post office. She watches him interact with a woman who works there and feels that the woman does not know how lucky she is to be able to speak to him. Tara feels overcome with the sense of loss she feels over no longer spending time with Thomas. She resolves to avoid seeing him again as it is only when she confines herself to hearing him but not seeing him that she can bear the separation. She does not follow him again.

Tara notices that every night Thomas picks himself a leek...
