Summary
Scene Four returns to the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead in 1960. Archie and Jennie argue about Jennie’s decision not to tell Nye that he is dying. Archie believes he needs to know the truth, whereas Jennie thinks he will have a better quality of life if he doesn’t know that he’s dying. Jennie says that when Nye saw the hospital ward she could see he was planning things and she didn’t want to take that away from him. Jennie discusses the fact that her own political career was subsumed by supporting Nye’s career. She says her contribution was for the greater good.
Scene Five takes place in Tredegar Workingman’s Library in Wales in 1908. 11-year-old Nye is shown around the library by Archie. He is amazed by the fact you can read any book you want...
