Chapters Nineteen - Twenty Summary

In Chapter Nineteen, Susannah discovers that Marcus's plan includes putting Tad and herself out to sea, after concocting a story that the teenagers took out the yacht to go jet-skiing, did not wear their life jackets and drowned in the choppy waters. Marcus leaves Susannah in Mr. Beaumont's office for five minutes so she can change into a swimsuit. Susannah concocts her own plan, as Tad lay unconscious. As Marcus returns to the office, Susannah slams a desk chair into the fish aquarium glass.

In Chapter Twenty, Jesse appears after Susannah calls him. At the last minute, Susannah rips an accent light from the bottom of the aquarium tank, pulls out the light bulb, and throws the cord into the water where Marcus is standing, holding a gun.
