Chapter 3 Summary

Wen recalls the first practice session as a disaster. As the five musicians disagree over what to play (something other than Stella's rebellious surfer rock), Wen performs the First Lemonade Mouth Miracle: he puts his horn to his lips and plays something he had been practicing, and everyone picks it up so that it works perfectly. Olivia starts to sing on top of it all:

"I don't know where I'm going

I don't know where I'd like to be

I cannot see beyond this moment

but let this moment swallow me

But I—

I'm singing a new song" (p. 88).

When they finish, they stare at each other in disbelief, grinning.

Mo says that she is breaking rules to be out with Scott Pickett at a beach party, with alcohol. The new Mudslide Crush album is playing, and Mo overhears people complaining that...
