Emma Carstairs

Emma is a Shadowhunter and the parabatai of Julian Blackthorn. She is a strong young woman who is driven by her love for her adopted family and her sense of justice. Her parents were killed five years prior to the opening scenes of this novel, and Emma has devoted herself to getting revenge. Her intentions are generally honorable though she is willing to step outside the rules in order to achieve her goals, especially when she feels the need to protect her family and friends.

Emma is capable, strong, and intelligent, but she has a need to be loved by others. She needs friends, which is one reason she forms such a strong bond with Christina in a relatively short period of time.
