Summary

In Chapter 9, Jane sits listening to a lecture in the hotel. Her thoughts drift to Caleb, and she worries that he has taken his money and left. She knew it was a risk, but she felt she was holding him hostage. Part of her thought that if he were gone she would be able to move on from her daughter’s death. The other part wanted him to stay. After knowing that her daughter was never intimate with him, she wonders why she is afraid to act on her feelings.
