Summary

In Chapter 8, narrated by Lily, Atlas calls Lily. After they chat for a while, he asks if she really thinks their dating will be an issue for Ryle. She explains that when she and Ryle were still married that he found her journals. He did not like what he read and had been jealous of Atlas ever since.

Atlas changes the subject and asks Lily to read him part of one of the entries. She reads him an entry about a night she came to him for comfort because her parents were fighting.

After she is finished, Atlas tells her about the vandalism to the restaurants. He says he is concerned that the person doing the damage might be destitute and without someone to rescue him.

Lily ends the phone call when Emmy begins to cry. Before she hangs up, they arrange to...
