Summary

Hussein tries to control the children with words of endearment, and he also tries to convince them that he saved them from a difficult life. Eventually, he starts relying more on threats. Karim is worried because he is the most dependent upon Hussein. Because of this, Karim also threatens the children, but then he tends their wounds at night. All of the children know that they could face the same fate as Karim one day.

Hussein does not threaten Iqbal, and Iqbal does not pay attention to Hussain. He can make rugs that far surpass the patterns of the other children. Karim tells them how nervous Hussein is about the carpet being finished perfectly. He is sure that the master will cancel the rest of the debt because he is fair, but the rest of the children doubt whether this is true...
