Point of View

The point of view of the novel is a first-person narrator told through the perspective of Margaret Moore, a murdered girl at summer camp. Through much of the novel, Margaret is unaware that she is a ghost. Margaret is an unreliable narrator. This is not because Margaret is trying to misdirect the reader, but rather because Margaret does not know her story. Margaret’s perception of time is skewed. Bits and pieces of Margaret’s memories return to her, but Margaret does not always know how to put them together.

Before Margaret realizes that she is deceased, Margaret passively interacts with her friends at the camp. It is clear that Margaret is keeping secrets from her friends, notably something that happened to Margaret the previous summer.
